He was a soldier in the Civil War and died from wounds received in the battle
of Petersburg, Virginia. He served in Comp. E, 16th Regiment of Volunteers.

Mrs. Lane said that he was a little man. He volunteered when he heard that the
Union was invading Petersburg and was killed in one of the first battles.
