Heinlein George Jacob [Male] b. 25 May 1858 Trail Run Monroe Ohio - d. 5 May 1932 Douglas Cty Mo

1870 Monroe County Ohio census age 11 place of birth Ohio farm work
I had lunch today at the Senior Center and had a chance to visit with J.G. Heinlein. I asked him about the summer kitchen mentioned in the 100 years ago article. This is what he told me:

"The summer kitchen was a room built onto the side of the house. You could walk through a door and go into it. It was the brain child of Grandma Lou who designed it and engaged a local carpenter to carry out her plans. It was quite ingenious for the times. It had a cistern underneath (which turned out not to be such a good idea years later as the floor rotted out), there was a hand pump and sink installed to draw up the water and they even had pipes running through the stove to heat the water. The carpenter was a local man by the name of Harry Dailey who was very good at his trade. Rosy Heinlein (sister to Lou) would go down to visit and when they wanted to talk about something they didn't want Mr. Dailey to hear, they would talk German. Mr. Dailey got quite angry about this and told George Heinlein, 'they sound just like a couple of pups getting choked on rat guts'."

Years later when the old folks died and the house sat empty, J.G. and his father, Ivan, stored hay in the old house. The floor broke through and hay fell into the cistern.
