She graduated from WilberhamAcademy, Wilberham, Mass., and Goucher College, Baltimore. Following the death of her husband, Alfred Elwyn Upham, thehead of the Maryland Training School, in 1914, Mrs. Upham returned to Cumberland where she joined the faculty of AlleganyHigh School on Greene Street. After serving there for three years she was appointed principal of the West Side School onCumberland Street and remained as its principal on Paca Street until her retirement. She was a member of the Maryland StateTeachers Association and the Allegany County Elementary Principals Association. She and 0. B. Boughton were the leadingproponents of the teachers' pension plan. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jean Howes of Providence, and Mrs. EvelynV. Rutley, of Washington, D. C.; one grandson, Alfred U. Howes, of Providence, and one sister, Miss Anna Spier, ofCumberland. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cumberland. The body is at the George Funeral Home wherefriends will be received from 7 to 9 p. m. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Services will be conducted at the funeralhome tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Maurice Robertson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be hi RoseHill Cemetery.
