Frostburg -
Andrew H. (Son) Speir, a former resident, died Tuesday at his home in Baltimore. He was the son of the late Hugh and Marie
Hohing Speir. He was a graduate of Beall High School and also attended Frostburg Normal and Dickinson College where he
was an outstanding high juniper. He was graduated from Maryland Institute of Art and The Johns Hopkins University. He had
taught Fine and Industrial Arts at Frostburg State Teachers College and in Baltimore for many years. He was a World War I
veteran, and a charter member of Farrady Post, American Legion. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Jeffries, Baltimore;
Mrs. Lou Spates, Mrs. Mabel Stevens, and Mrs. Lillian Stewart, all of here; three nephews, Hugh and James Jeffries, and
former State Senator Noel Speir Cook. The body will be returned here for a graveside service tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Frostburg
Memorial Park. Rev. Steven Wasbburn will officiate. Pallbearers will be Noel S. Cook, Rudolph Mendelsohn, William
Lemmert, William Spates, Joseph LaPorta and John Dillon. The Cumberland News, January 21, 1971 He was buried on 22 Jan
1971 in Frostburg Memorial Cemetery, Frostburg, Allegany Co., Maryland. First prize in the Tri-State Art Exhibit at the
Cumberland Free Public Library has been taken by Andrew H. Speir, Frostburg, for an oil painting. The painting by Speir is
titled "Flower Study." The art exhibit is being sponsored by the Cumberland Branch of the American Association of University
