Note: In the 1910 census he was listed as a 30 yr old farmer, owning his own farm, living in beat 5 with his wife Maranda age 40, having 9 children. Dan works on the farm age 14.
In the 1920 census Matthew was listed as a 42 yr old farmer living in beat 5 on the McNeill to Ceasar road with wife Maranda age 48 and 8 children, including William age 23, a bookkeepper.

Note: He served in the war of 1812 as a Pvt. in Capt. Barnetts' Mississippi Militia. He enlisted on 9-22-1814 and was discharged on 12-31-1814.

Note: In the 1870 Hancock census Jim was listed as being 41 yrs old and living with him at the time was his son James M. Gill age 4 yrs. Apparently, his wife Martha Ann Spiers had already passed away.[Strahan Family Reunion .FTW]
