Lemuel Horace Holmes

Lemuel Horace Holmes, age 71, of Cantonment died Monday, February 11, 2002.

Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by one son, Lemuel H. Holmes, III. He was retired from the U.S. Navy as Chief Yeoman, member of Masonic West Pensacola Lodge #296 F& AM., Scottish Rite-Hadji Temple and from the Navy Exchange.

Survivors include his wife, Mary. R. Holmes, Cantonment Fl.; daughter &son-in-law, Ruth and Robert Hughes, Cantonment Fl.; son and daughter-in-law, Roger &Janet Holmes, Atlanta Ga. &David &Jennifer Holmes, Pace Fl.; grandchildren, Vicki, Roger Jr., Eric, Kimberly, Jessica, Sarah, and David Jr.; great grandchildren, Jon Michael, Porsha, Hannah, &Elias Jr.

Funeral services at 10:15 A.M. Thursday, February 14, 2002 at Waters &Hibbert Funeral Home with Navy Chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Roger Holmes Jr., David Holmes Jr., Jon Michael Guice, Eric Holmes, Jordan Duggar Sr., Gary Holloway Jr., Sean Guice, and Heath Thach.Waters &Hibbert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call Waters &Hibbert Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday.

Graves final rites said
Funeral services for Seth Eugene Graves, 53, were held Saturday at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home chapel.
He died Thursday at his residence in Magnolia.
Born Jan. 17, 1924, Graves was a native of Tylertown, son of Howard and Lizzie Lee Graves. He married the former Mary Jane Cooper, who survives him.
OTHER SURVIVORS include five sons, Albert Graves of Orlando, Fla., Seth Graves Jr. of Fort Leonardwood, Mo., Robert, Jessie and Bobby Graves of Magnolia; one daughter, Helen Graves of Magnolia; three brothers, Jessie G. Graves of Denham Springs, La., Ford Graves of Springfield, La.; Hezzie Graves of Ponchatoula, La.; five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jason Graves, William Graves, Randolph Graves, Robert Lewis, Ray Graves and Larry Lessard.
Burial was in Rushing Cemetery with Hartman-Hughes in charge.

Genealogy Note: Per Lillie Marie Hill E-mail dated September 2, 2000, the son listed in the obituary as Albert Graves of Orlando, Fl., is actually Albert Winston Todora, son of Mary Jane Cooper and Nathan Todora. Subsequently a stepson of Seth Eugene Graves.

Simmons, Offie B. (b. 26 MAY 1891, d. 9 AUG 1953)

First name was likely Theophilus with this being shortened to "Offie". He was the son of Maggie Irene Morris married 1 Hillary Simmons. Maggie married 2 Marion Hall Lee.

Obituary published in The Tylertown Times, Tylertown, Ms., August 1953:

Offie B. Simmons

Offie B. Simmons, well known local saw filer, passed away Sunday morning, August 9, at his residence here. He was 62 years of age.
Funeral services were held from Hartman's Funeral Home Chapel., with interment in the Rushing Cemetery Monday afternoon. The last rites were conducted by the Rev. Harry Jones, pastor of Silver Springs Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. Arthur D. Rockett, pastor of Mesa Baptist Church, of which Mr. Simmons was a member.
Pallbearers were Recie Forbes, Claude Graves, O. B. Davis, Levi Simmons, Harlon Fleming and Millard Fleming.
Mr. Simmons was born May 26, 1891, in what is now Walthall County, the son of Hillary and Irene Morris Simmons. He lived his entire life in this county. He was married to the former Leo Lee, who survives him with three daughters; Mrs. Altus Boyd, of Homer, La.; Mrs. Elie Whiddon of Kokomo, Mrs. Wess Dillon of Tylertown; and five sons, Elmer Simmons, of Baton Rouge; T. J. Simmons of Baton Rouge; Jessie Simmons of Tylertown; and Wallace Simmons, of Bogalusa.
Also surviving are; one brother, Shell Simmons, of Tylertown; one sister, Mrs. Neal Moran, of Bogalusa; a half-brother, Claiborne Lee, of Hammond; a half-sister, Mrs. Frank Dillon, of Tylertown; and 17 grandchildren.
