Author: Betty Todd Date: 1 Mar 2001 8:59 PM GMT
We are related to this Burge family. My husband's great grandmother was Rosa Burge Capps she was the daughter of Henderson Christopher Burge II and Cynthia Bell Jackson. Lots of the Burges are buried in Newlin Cemetery at Singer La.We have lots of info on this line going back to the 1700s.I willing to share what I have because I got so much from the Burges who still live around Singer. Southwest Louisiana
Newlin Cemetery, circa 1897
Singer - North on La. Hwy. 27 from Singer, turn east on Bob Colby Road
A well-marked and easy-to-locate cemetery, Newlin Cemetery has monuments marked as early as 1897. The oldest section appears to be that furthest from the gate. There are examples of cast-iron head markers as well as monuments made of stone.

Day is an English and Irish name that originates in several forms: as an English variation of David -- a common pet form of the name; as a patronymic name derived from the Middle English given name Daye from Old English dœg = day or the given name Dœgberht ; as an Irish patronymic name Anglicized from Ó Deághaidh , meaning "descendant of Deághadh " whose name meant "good luck." Daye, Dey, D'Eye, Daykin, Dakin, Deyes, Dayson, Deason, Dayman are other forms of the name.

Note 1: Subject: Adolphus Marion Burge
Message: My father Gustavus (Gus)Burge was born in DeRidder. My grandmother Nettie Sibley Burge was raised in DeRidder. Her
parents Robert & Caroline Sibley are burried at Pleasant Hill. I'm looking for information on Adolphus Marion Burge (Dolph) who married Nettie Sibley. Dolph Burge would have been born aprox. 1876 he died at age 36. Grandmother never remarried and never spoke of Dolph. Does anyone know anything of this man. We think he married Nettie in DeRidder and moved to Beaumont Texas after Gus was born in 1907, Gus died 1942 when I was an infant. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
