Shuler, Johan Jurgen (b. 1723, d. 29 NOV 1815)

Note: George came to America in 1753 with his father and siblings. They arrived in Philadelphia and moved to Greene County, New York, where they became members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Lonnenburg.

In 1768 he moved to Catskill, New York, and purchased the land owned by his brother Lawrence. The family became members of the Dutch Reformed Church in Catskill. They later settled in Amsterdam, New York, where he made his living as a weaver.

Crane, Azariah 1st (b. 1649, d. 5 NOV 1730)
Will: Date: 10 FEB 1720/21
Place: Newark, Essex County, New Jersey
Note: Azariah was Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church at Newark, New Jersey from 1690 until his death. He was the founder of Cranetown (now Montclair), New Jersey. He became very active in colonial politics.
The will mentions a wife and his children, Nathanael, Azariah, John, Robert, Jane Richards, Mary Baldwin.

The following items are listed: a home lot adjoining David Pierson's, a piece of boggy meadow in the Great Cove, salt meadow on Maple Island Creek (formerly belonging to John Ward), land on a branch of Second River between James Nuttman and Nathanael Ward, personal property (a silver bowl, given to Christ Church, Newark, and a negro man).

The executor was son, John, and the witnesses were John Baldwin, Samuel Cooper and Simon Huntington. The will was proved on January 12, 1730.

Laraway, John Reuben (b. 14 SEP 1785, d. JUL 1834)
Note: As a young man, John moved with his family from Massachusetts to Corinth, New York. After his marriage to Roxena they lived in East Poultney, Vermont for a time, but then returned to Corinth.

In 1815 the family moved near Louisville, Kentucky and remained there for about eight years before relocating in Clark County, Indiana. In 1827, John and Roxena made their permanent home in Jackson County, Indiana and settled on 120 acres along the banks of the White River. This was in Carr Township on the road from Medora to Vallonia.

They moved up river to Elizabethtown in 1832 and made their home in Hamilton Township along Indian Creek where John died. Roxena went to live with her daughter, Manerva, and in about three years, at the age of 52, she married widower Jonas Crane who was the 70 year old uncle of her son-in-law Isaac Crane. After Isaac's death, Roxena again went to live with Manerva, and lived with her until her death in 1863.

Laraway, Phillip 1st (b. 20 DEC 1757, d. 5 SEP 1844)
Census: Date: 1790
Place: Stephentown, Albany County, New York
Note: Phillipe Le Ruez changed his name to Phillip Laraway and at age 21 he was living in Boston and working as a tailor.

In April 1779 he enlisted and served as a private under Captain Luke Day in Colonel Alden's 7th Regiment of the Massachusetts Line. He became one of General Lafayette's soldiers and assisted in the fight against Benedict Arnold's raiders in January 1781.

He was present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown on September 19, 1781. He continued service with the Continental Line until June 1783 and then re enlisted as a replacement for Jabez Laughlin.

He was discharged in January 1784 and settled in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Sometime before 1786 he moved to Philipstown along the Hudson River in Duchess County, New York, and remained there until 1796. From Duchess County he moved to Saratoga County and settled in Greenfield in 1801.

In 1804 he moved to Hadley and continued to work as a tailor until he retired in 1811. He settled next in Poultney, Vermont, where he received a pension and bounty land. After a short time he moved back to New York, residing at Sandy Hill, Kingsbury Township, Washington County. He was back in Corinth, New York, in 1830, and found back in Sandy Hill in 1835. His last years were spent living with his daughter in Poultney, Vermont.
Phillip is listed with his wife and three sons under 16 years old.
