The 24th annual Penton Reunion will be Saturday Oct. 31, 1998, beginning at 10:00 a.m, National Guard Armory, Picayune, Miss. Bring your favorite dish and pictures to share. After the reunion, at 4:00 p.m. we will meet at the Penton Cemetery on George Ford Road, Carriere, Ms. The Gainesville Volunteer Camp 373 Mississippi Division Sons of Confederate Veterans will honor the memory of those who served in the Confederate Army. Seven of the nine sons of John Penton, an 1812 War Vet. & his wife Mary Polly Dungeon, all joined on March 25, 1862, Gainesville, Ms., D. B Seal's Unit called the "Hancock Rebels" which was consolidated into the Thirty Eighth Calvary Regiment. All returned home safely except one brother, Cpl. Alfred E. Penton, who was killed while on picket duty during the Siege of Vicksburg. Those brothers were: William Alford, Alfred E., Emanuel Jordan, David, George W., John Jeff & Thomas Harrison Penton. Other Confederate Veterans to be honored are: Benjamin Franklin Burge, James Marion Burge, Wilson Holland Taylor and John's brother-
in-law, Hiram Lewis. Invite your family and friends for this memorable occasion. Bring a chair for the cemetery event.
All of the Pentons who served in Ms. Confederate Service were in the Hancock Rebels, raised in Hobolochitto (now Picayune), Pearl River (then Hancock) County, Ms. An excellent book on the 38th Ms. Infantry is available from Mr. Jeff Giambrone, Old Courthouse Museum, Vicksburg, Ms. Hope this helps! -- Jim Huffman, Adjutant, Gainesville Vols, Camp 373, Pearl River County, Ms. PS: We did an Confederate Memorial Service at the Penton Cemetery near Picayune (actually Carriere, Ms.) about three years ago. If you've never seen this cemetery, you need to visit. Several Confederte Pentons (duhhh!) buried there. Can't recall exact names at this long a remove!

With much help from Hilda Hoffman, the Stockstill historian for south Mississippi, We have John Claudus Stockstill as being the son of Ira Louis Stockstill 1856 to 1940, who md a Martha Jane Burge 1853 - 1902. Ira Louis Stockstill is the son of Joshua Stockstill Jr. and Emaline Varnado. Johsua Stockstill Jr. is the son of Joshua Stockstill and Mary Lavinia Knight.
We have Martha Jane Burge as being the daughter of John Richard Burge and Nancy Warden.
We have John Claudus Stockstill as being md to Pauline Perkins 1889 - 1973, the daughter of Frank J. Perkins and Alice Young. Frank J. Perkins being the son of Major Joseph Frances Perkins S r. and Alice Young being the daughter of Col. John O Young and Betty West.
