Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Established 1842 in Nicholson, (then in Hancock County), Pearl River County, Ms. Originally called Palestine Baptist Church, this was the first church organized in Hancock, Pearl River and parts of several adjoining counties in south Ms. Charter members were Thomas J. Stockstill and wife; Joshua Stockstill and wife; John Penton and wife; and William H. Varnado, Elder. The present building is the fourth one for this church. The church was renamed Old Palestine Baptist Church in 1898 when several families were granted letters to form a new church, called New Palestine Baptist Church, a few miles further north.
