Inventions

By Ron Spiers, England 2003

A neglected source of genealogy are patent applications. The following list of Patentees of Inventions includes all the usual variations of the name Spiers, Spears, etc. The Patent Application and Specification always includes an address, either of the individual or his company. Complete Specifications are held at the British Library, Science Reference and Information Service, 25, Southampton Buildings, London WC2A 1AW. The Library has all Patents listed by year and in name order. The earliest listing is for the years 1617-1852. Where a patent application is not proceeded with it becomes void and is not printed. The author is joint patentee for three in 1978.
