OBITUARY - It was a shock to many friends in Huntsville and surrounding community to learn of the sudden death of our popular townsman, Mr. Samuel Bradley, which occurred at his residence on Landsdowne St. on March 22nd. The end came very tragically. Shortly after supper, Mr. Bradley and his son Glen were busy getting in some wood. As the boy brought in the last armful he closed the door and the father sat down on a chair in the kitchen. Glen returned about ten minutes later and found his father prostrate on the floor. He ran at once to Mr. D. Bailey's next door and when Mr. Bailey arrived, life was extinct. Dr. MacDonald was called and pronounced death due to heart failure. Mrs. Bradley was at the home of her sister at the West End when the news reached her.
The funeral took place at Madill's on Monday, March 26th, burial following an impressive service in the Church, conducted by Revs. Belfry and Berner. The church was packed to the doors and dozens were unable to gain admiittance. The pallbearers were: George Spiers, Thos. Spiers, Jas. Wright, Frank Blackwell, Wm. Shay and Chas. Lawrence.
The late Mr. Bradley was born at Clineberg, near Toronto, 68 years ago. When a lad of 18, he came to Muskoka with his father, the late G. Bradley, who died on the old homestead in Stephenson about 16 years ago. Two years later he lost his mother. He lived on the Stephenson farm for about 45 years, finally retiring and moving into Huntsville. He married, 42 years ago, Lydia Spiers, the daughter of the late George Spiers. To this union a family of ten children were born. He passed through the many hardships incident to pioneer life and, through intelligent effort, succeeded in providing a fair competency for the eventide of his life. He was an honest, industrious citizen, possessing those fine qualities of comradeship which made him popular with all people with whom he came in contact.
