Soldiering in Sussex military camp is no novelty to Sargeant O. W. Marsh, M. M. conductor of the Queen's Own Rifles brass band, for he was here during the last war with the 104th Battalion, C. E. F.
Sgt. Marsh finds it quite a bit different now, he says. In the old days of 1915 he recalls the troops were under canvas until the snow piled around the flimsy shelters. There was no beds such as the troops have today, and no roaring fires. In those days Sergeant Marsh and thousands of his comrades in Camp Sussex had their ground sheets and three blankets. They ate in drafty marquees.
During the last war, Sgt. Marsh distinguished himself in action and won the Military Medal. The years since the war have been kind to him. He still marches with a spring and knows his "stuff", even though the army has changed. He has done a splendid job with the Q. O. R. band.
His home for the past few years has been in Toronto.
