John and Effie (Spiers) Reynolds





OBITUARY - Effie Maud Reynolds passed away at 80 years of age on April 10, 1986 at Huntsville, Ontario. Mrs. Reynolds was born at Etwell on December 22, 1905 and is the daughter of John Spiers and Elizabeth Hannah. She was married to John William Reynolds, the son of John William Reynolds and Lily Eaton of England on April 29, 1929 at Bracebridge. Effie (Spiers) Reynolds was the last surviving member of a pioneer family of nine. She will always be remembered by her family and many friends as a constant and steady source of comfort, support and unquestioning love. She was a member of the Trinity United Church, the United Church Women, IOOF Rebekah Lodge #356, Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 232 and Club 55.
The deceased is survived by one son and three daughters, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Trinity United Church on April 12, 1986. Interment followed at Madill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Grenville Spiers, Clifford Cook, Richard Scott, Edward Scott, Joe Spiers, Allan Spiers, all nephews of the deceased.


OBITUARY - John Reynolds passed away July 27, 1977. He was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England and was a Barnardo Home Boy. He came to Canada in 1921 at the age of eleven, turning twelve on October 18th. He became the ward of Mrs. William Tipper who lived on a farm near Etwell. She gave him a good home and he enjoyed his years with her and her family. After leaving school he worked at various jobs in lumber camps, on log drives down the river in spring and on a number of farms in the district. He married Effie Spiers, youngest daughter of John Spiers and Elizabeth Hannah, in 1931. In 1937 they moved to Huntsville where he was employed at Anglo Canadian Leather Co. until 1940 when he joined the Algonquin Regiment. After the war he returned to Anglo Canadian and worked there until the company ceased operations. He then worked for the Ministry of Transport and Communications until his retirement in October 1974.
Surviving him are his wife, one son, three daughters and 15 grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Lily (Mrs. Ernest Iles of Sheffield, England), of a family of six. His father was killed in action in the first World War at age 39 and his mother died at age 29 during the flu epidemic of 1918.
Funeral services were held at Trinity United Church on July 29, 1977. Interment followed at the Madill Church Cemetery.
