George Reid (Rowan Co. N. C.) later (12/12/1853) Caroll Co. Georgia
volunteered as a in 1792 at Green Co. Georgia, for the duration of Wayne's War against Creek and Cherokee Indians. He continued actively in military service for four years, guarding forts and scouting after Indians. "George Reid, Gentleman at Arms" is on of forty-six names on an "original muster roll" Feb 25 1794 of a militia troop of dragoons organized in Greene co. "to protect settlers from repeated invasion of Indians". This troop was to become famous in the annals of Middle Georgia. This roll is almost a complete roster of prominent families of Green Co. George Reid moved from Greene co. to Jackson Co., Georgia and subsequently represented the latter in the Georgia Legislature for the first time in 1798, then in 1804 and 1817.

The first Reid's in Carroll Co. Ga. for whom dates are available appear o be George Reid II, son of George and grandson of Alexander and Margaret of Europe, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. This George was born in North Carolina, married Jane Gaston (possibly of the Carolinas) and served in the Georgia House of Representatives from Jackson County Ga. Jan 12, 1801, served as Justice of the Inferior Court of Gwinnett Co. Ga. Feb 2 1819 to 1821 and served as Senator from Gwinnett Co. 1819 - 1821 and served in the Extra Session in 1821.

In 1822, while a resident of Gwinnett, he was granted by the state 597 1/2 Acres of "head right" lands in Jackson Co.; however, he moved to Carroll Co. soon after it's formation in 1827.

George's widow, Jane Gaston resided in Carroll Co., Ga. after Georges death in 1855

George Reid, along with George Jr. , Alexander Reid, Henry Reid of Rocky Comfort, and John Reid are listed as buyers at the estate sale of Matthew Gaston who died in Green Co. Ga. in 1799. (property_

Items also bought from the estate included: Margaret Reid bought a lot of household goods (saucers, cups, candlestick, churn, shot bag, churn, dutch oven, reel, small wheel (spinning wheel), knives, forks, chest, bed, cow and calf and a cotton patch). No other persons listed buying at sale.

George Reid was named guardian for Ann Gastin .
