Henry Milton White was born Jan. 31, 1805 to Capt. Jacob and Hannah Spiers White. He married Mary Gwatkin October 4, 1826. He was a planter and owned many slaves and large tracts of land near the present St. Thomas Church. He was a Captain in the Virginia Militia. His wife died Feb. 4, 1846. Their only son was killed in the Civil War. Henry made his home after the war with his two daughters Mary and Catherine. He died October 12, 1867, at the home of his daughter, Catherine. He was buried in the family plot on the estate, originall owned by his father, Jacob White, when he first came to Bedford, and where he was born.
