the USA, but some of his brothers were not so they went to Canada and another brother had his Dad pay $300. to get out of service. Emanuel was with the calvalry and was the one to clean out the gun barrel after a shot was fired. He was doing same with a ramrod and some of the shot was not totally fried as he cleaned the gun barrel. It fired the ramdor and hit him in the leg causing him to have a game-leg the rest of his life and getting back to a hospital at the time. So he survived the war. He was a farmer in Charlestown, Ohio near Ravenna and not far from Akron.
