Fred worked in Toronto for awhile at a car dealership. He worked in Brampton at construction work. This is where he and Marilyn met.

After their marriage they moved to the family farm at R. R. # 1, Hepworth, Ontario. Fred then worked at Hobarts in Owen Sound. He went o work at the Amabel Hepworth Central School as Custodian in 1971. In 1991 he was made Head Custodian at the School.

Fred took ill in Buffalo NY, on their way home from a vacation through Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and died in the Filmore Hospital.

Fred had one of the biggest funerals to date (August 1992) ever held in he Downs and Son Funeral Home, Hepworth.
